Derwin "Dee" Lamar Rhodes age 49 of North Las Vegas, NV peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2:43am.
Derwin was born Sunday, December 21, 1969 at 9:53pm at the Community Hospital of Springfield and Clark County in Springfield, OH to Virgena Rhodes of Springfield, OH & Gregory Gray of Dayton, OH. A native of Springfield, Dee was educated in the Springfield Public School System where where he graduated from North High School on June 2. 1988.
On June 24, 1988 Dee joined the United States Air Force (USAF). Training took him to Lackland AFB-TX, Sheppad AFB-TX and Andrews AFB-MD before he was stationed at Little Rock AFB-AR as a Medical Laboratory Technician. Dee was a Veteran of the Gulf War serving during Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm and received an Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal & Air Force Training Ribbon. Dee received an Honorable Discharge on June 24, 1992. Dee began his career in 1995 as a Federal Employee with the United States Government as a Medical Laboratory Technician while his wife was stationed at Sembach AFB-Germany.
While stationed at Little Rock, Dee met the love of his life Jacqueline "Jackie" Yvette Reed at a Christmas parade on Saturday, December 2, 1989. Awakened from a nap with an engagement ring on her finger Dee proposed to Jackie on June 20, 1990. They married on April 20, 1991 and traveled the world during Jackie's 20 year carer in the USAF with tours of duty at Sembach, Little Rock, Pope AFB- NC, Keesler -AFB - MS- GA and Nellis AFB- NV. In 1997 they started their family and 5 children were born of this union. Upon Jackie's retirement they decided to remain in Las Vegas so Dee could perfect his golf game.
Derwin was a devoted and loving husband and father who enjoyed life by spending time with his family and traveling. a passionate fitness buff who enjoyed the gym, golfing, racquetball, basketball, baseball, singing, dancing, card and board games, tea aficionado and puzzles. Dee completed his 1st triathlon at Keesler. Dee completed in the Toughman Boxing Contest at Keesler and received the 2nd place trophy & jacket. Dee completed the Tough Mudder Fitness Competition while residing in Las Vegas. He was an avid Boston Celtics fab as well as Philadelphia Eagles fan who rejoiced unabashedly in their 2018 Super Bowl Championship season. Dee was known for his kids spirit, humming, loving and compassionate heart, infectious smile and laughter which made it impossible for you not to love him once you met him. He will be truly and deeply missed.
