Damita was born on July 30, 1952 to parents Olen Nolan and James Donell
Clark. She was her mother's only child. Damita attended Raymond Avenue Elementary, John Muir Middle School, and Manuel Arts High School, graduating with the class of 1970.
Damita married James Richard Fleming on December 31, 1982. A union that would last until James fell asleep in death. Damita had three children, James Ridgeway, Delitta Fleming and Jamal Fleming. She also enjoyed spending time with her step children, Darien and LaKisha Fleming. Whether she was laughing with friends, spending time with her children and grandkids, or watching "reality TV", she loved a good time. Her house was usually the house on the block that the neighborhood kids would gather for a good time and a good meal.
Damita was a beautiful soul who cared about the wellbeing of others. If you needed anything, Damita would do her best to help. She loved children, as was evident by her career choices; working with the Inglewood Unified School District for more than 27 years. She found her niche as the Office Clerk for Inglewood Unified School District's Project Hope Program. She was a source of calm in an otherwise chaotic world for students with behavioral challenges. She worked with the Project Hope Program for more than 20 years. She also worked as a Camp Advisor with Inglewood Parks and Recreation and as a Dietary Aide at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Damita retired in 2013. How Damita looked forward to life after retirement! She had big plans and began pursuing those plans. She and her grandson Jamal Jr. moved to Las Vegas in 2019 to be closer to her other grandchildren. She enjoyed her new home with plenty of room for her grandchildren to run and play. How she cared for and adored her grandchildren. But life was not all fun and games to Damita.
Yes, she knew how to have a good time, but she also realized the importance of a relationship with her heavenly father Jehovah God.
Damita began studying the bible during COVID with a friend in Los Angeles via Zoom. How she enjoyed those studies! The things she learned gave her comfort and assurance that everything God promised, he would do. She regularly attended the weekly congregation meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses via Zoom and was very excited about the things she was learning. Although Damita had many responsibilities at home, it was rare that she missed her Bible study or weekly congregational meetings.
Damita loved life and did everything she could to be here for her children and grandchildren. We look forward to enjoying the company our dear Damita again in the resurrection that Jesus promised. (John 5:28-29, Acts 24:15)
She leaves to cherish her memory her 4 sister-in-laws Delitta, Irene, Carmen, and My, sons James (wife Monae) and Jamal, daughter Delitta, stepchildren Darien and LaKisha, grandchildren Jaylynn, Semaj'e, Kayla, Aniah, Amirrah, Ely jah, Jamal Jr. and Semiyah along with a host of extended family and cherished friends. She will be missed by all who loved, respected, and cherished her friendship.
