Morzell Walker was born December 31, 1942, in Carthage, Arkansas, to the late Sampson and Ulah Ann Walker. He was the second of six children; one brother, James, preceded him death.
He attended elementary and high school in Carthage, Arkansas, where he was a member of the basketball team. Upon graduation, Morzell moved with his family to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1961. His work history included Silver Nugget, Hacienda Hotel, EG&G, and Hamburger Heaven before retiring from the Clark County School District as lead custodian after more than 30 years. He was married to the former Minnie L. Stewart, in 1969. To this union was born two children, Colean and Deano. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Morzell loved to hunt and fish, although his declining health over the years had not allowed him to pursue this passion. He also loved to bake and was often called on to make one of his mouthwatering confections. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, often babysitting and just hanging out. He was baptized at an early age at the Lea's Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Lea's Ridge, Arkansas. Upon his death he was a faithful member of the Living World Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor L.H. Murray, where he served as a deacon.
Minnie Lee Stewart was born on February 17, 1945 in Goshen Springs, Mississippi to the late Corena and Cordell Stewart. Her early education took place at Chapman School in Leesburg, Mississippi. She also attended Sand Hill High, in Sand Hill, Mississippi. She was a member at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist, in Leesburg, Mississippi where she was baptized and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Shortly thereafter, she and her sister Cora (Kate) began singing duets in the surrounding churches.
She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1965 where she attended the Dana McKay Business College. She soon met and married Morzell Walker in 1969. To this union were born two children, a daughter Colean Marcielle Walker, and a son, Deaniak Shonnon Walker.
Her employment history in Las Vegas, NV included The Sands Hotel, Nellis Air Force Base, EG&G, and the Department of Energy where she served for more than thirty years before she retired. She was a member of the American Business Woman Association of America, and Seniors Walking Across America at the Pearson Community Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Minnie (Deannie) was also an active volunteer with the food bank at Living Word Ministry COGIC, a choir member, and an usher under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence H. Murray.
As if that wasn't enough to keep her busy, some of her hobbies included, walking, sewing, singing, collecting antiques, coffee mugs, and photographs of her family members and friends. In years past, she sang with the former quartet group, the Deliverance Singers and the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Minnie (Deannie) also sang with two other local choirs, Las Vegas District Choir, and Nevada first Ecclesiastical Jurisdictional Choir. One of the highlights of her life were the big Sunday dinners at her home, particularly the Easter Family Dinner. It was a delight for her to cook and serve others. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She liked traveling, especially driving across country with her family where they would sometimes stop at the Antique Road Shows. She also liked attending National COGIC Conventions.
