Gertrude Delourise Thomas was born on July 4, 1941 in Tallulah, Louisiana
to Burl Lee and Blanche Dotson, her parents who
to Burl Lee and Blanche Dotson, her parents who
both preceded her in death. She was the second oldest of
fourteen children who affectionally seen her as their second mom.
Gertrude attended Reuben McCall Sr. High School in 1960. In
1961 she began her life long residency where she would meet
her future husband Julius Thomas Jr. who she was married to
for 46 years and who also preceded her in death.
She had an extensive career at the Sahara Hotel and Casino
from which she retired from in 2012. Some of her hobbies
included the love of sports. She was an exceptional basketball
player in high school. Her most happiest times were when she
attended her children and grandchildren games and events.
Gertrude was also an extraordinary cook and seamstress.
Gertrude was called home to be with her Heavenly Father and
she leaves to cherish her memories, her loving children; Glenda
and Leon Austin, Brenda K. Lee, Carolyn and Stephen Franklin,
Debra Thomas, Latanya Thomas, Fred and Cy Williams,
Howard Bradford, god-children; Sherrie and Anthony Burton, 12
grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by siblings; Barbara Lee,
Ernastine Toliver Jackson, George Banks and Hershey
Dotson and Great Granddaughter Kaylee Jamette Davis. She
was survived by siblings; Elnora Lee, Gloria and Roosevelt
Williams, Lily Gains, Eugene and Essie Lee, Irma Lee, Blanche
and Gerald McNeil, Pearl Wiggins, Earl Wiggins, Joe and
Jennifer Dotson, Margie Dotson, Deloris Dotson, and Thelma Dotson.
