David Gregory Klimek

David Gregory Klimek, 70, died peacefully on July 7, 2024 in his home in Las Vegas, Nevada after a long battle with esophageal cancer. Born in Blueberry, British Columbia to Frank and Barbara Klimek (both deceased), David was raised in Seattle, then Kent, Washington, where he graduated from Kentridge High School in 1971.

At 17, David enlisted in the US Navy and was accepted to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland in 1972. In his 23-year career as a submariner, he sailed to ports around the world until his retirement as a chief petty officer in 1994. After his naval retirement, David worked as a journeyman electrician for various Las Vegas casinos, the PBS TV station, KLVX, and the Clark County School District. He retired completely in 2012. Throughout both his careers, David was recognized for his excellence in service—a hard-worker who got the job done and got it done right.

David had great affection for family, friends, good food, the southwest, and his dogs. Dubbed “Grandpa Two Dogs” by granddaughter, Josie, David shared his Vegas home with first Sumo and Suki, then Suki and Major, and finally, Major and Roxy.

A 35-year member of Alcoholics Anonymous, David will be remembered as generous and loving with a larger-than-life personality. His door was always open. He was the first to invite family and friends (and their family and friends) to join him in Las Vegas for sights, sunshine, and gaming. He loved roaming the southwest in his motor home, sharing the beauty, grandeur, and awe he felt for the Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and Arches National Parks with all who joined him on his travels.

David is survived by his daughter, Danielle, grandchildren, Josephine and Maximilian, son-in-law, Bryan, siblings, Jeff, Madelynn, and Vanessa, and his beloved dog, Roxy.

Dad, brother, Grandpa Two Dogs, you are loved and will be missed.
